Why E-waste is on landfill blacklist?

Electronic waste is the culprit. Why?

Nobody in the world would like the idea of having your pre-loved or used electronics would end up in the landfill that will take 50 years to decompose. People these days should start to get to know more about how and why they should recycle their used electronics or e-waste. Sometimes, it may seem like the electric devices were made proof from decomposition, as if it is immortal.

Tin, can and steel take around 50 years to decompose and aluminum can take 200-500 years to break down. Getting rid of e-waste in the landfills is like a never ending process as e-waste are most likely to end up polluting the environment than it is to biodegrade. The toxic compounds that e-waste can produce will get into water and the soil that could end up killing many of our flora and fauna. If it is burned, it will pollute the air and it will spread diseases that are very lethal.

Now that you know that e-waste is not a bae material, there’s absolutely no reason to keep throwing e-waste and for it to end up in a landfill. There are a lot of alternative for what you can do with your e-waste such as;

  • Recycle: Some of the e-waste materials are recyclable especially the raw materials.
  • Take back programs: There are electronic companies that take back their devices. However, if your household, office and schools own devices that are in different brands, it might be a lot of work to give it back to the companies, respectively. But for those who are loyal to one brand, this could be an advantage.
  • Donation and resale: If the devices are still in a good condition, you can just donate it or selling it for a cheaper price.
  • Refurbishment: There are companies that buy and sell refurbished devices or gadgets. Never refuse to reuse. This way, we can conserve resources and reduces the amount of energy we take from the earth.
